Appliances and Work Surfaces
An ideal kitchen design incorporates a variety of workspaces and appliances of different functions and heights, allowing for food preparation and cooking, casual conversations, family gatherings, homework and other tasks whether sitting or standing.

As with cabinetry, appliances have a wide range of costs. For the experienced handyman or installer.
How-to tip
Select appliances with easy to see and understand controls. Front controls on the stove top are essential. Make sure that the wall oven is mounted at a height where the controls can be seen and the oven interior is accessible.
If you opt for a raised dishwasher, 6 inches should be the maximum. Raised dishwashers need to be located at the end of a counter run so that the altered height doesn’t interrupt work flow. Pull-out cutting boards incorporated into cabinetry are another way to create a lowered (though temporary) work surface.
